Sergio is two!

This past weekend Sergio turned two years old! We celebrated with friends and family in Miami (Goulds, FL) at the Little Farm. It was a great party filled with farm fun--petting zoo, pony rides, feeding and milking goats, and much more! We had such a great time...Sergio just loved running around with his cousins! We can't believe our little guy is already TWO!

School is about to start up...

Mommy is back at work...my students return next week!! This week has been extremely stressful, full of trainings, meetings, you name it. So many new responsibilities assumed! Daddy is staying home this week with Sergio as he finishes up his recovery period. He goes back to school next week. We're really nervous about how he will react; he is older now and very aware of the fact he is being dropped off and "abandoned." Hopefully he has missed his teachers and friends and all goes well! We'll keep you posted. I'm posting some new videos of Sergio singing and counting and doing his thing.

Love you all,
M-D Fam

Recovery

Sergio is doing better now, one week out from surgery. We had quite the scare yesterday when a blood vessel burst where his right tonsil had been removed. There was a lot of blood loss; thankfully we got him to the ER quickly and an ENT was able to operate on him to cauterize the area within the hour. Although the experience was really stressful for all of us, Sergio is recovering nicely.

He is eating a lot of soft foods, drinking well, playing, singing, dancing, running (more than we're comfortable with for a little boy recovering from surgery). He is really a remarkable little person and we love him soooo much!

We are so grateful that Sergio has such wonderful grandparents that care about him and are dedicated to him. His Abu & Abuela came up for the surgery and were with him the first days post-op. Now, Abuelo & Tita are here helping out for the week. We are very blessed and love them all dearly.

Much love to all of you,
the Martinez-Diaz Fam

Sergio's Tonsil Surgery

Sergio has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. He is getting his tonsils removed the first week of August to help his breathing at night and hopefully minimize some of the issues we've had with congestion and what not. We hope you will keep him in your thoughts and prayers; we realize it's a minor surgery, but we're naturally worried as relatively new parents.

He is having surgery at Shands in Gainesville and will be watched overnight due to his being so young. We'll keep you all posted.

Much love.

Welcome to our family's blog!

We've decided to replace Sergio's baby site with a family blog. This way we can talk about things that are going on in all our lives and share all kinds of news with the family. Check in from time to time as we will update our blog with info, pictures, videos, etc.

We're still figuring this thing out, so be patient. I'm sure there will be changes in the future.

For now, enjoy this new video of Sergio (at 22 months) identifying shapes. He can point out ovals, triangles, squares, rectangles, circles, stars and diamonds. He also is counting from 1 to 10 in English and Spanish--though he omits 7 in both languages most of the time! He is an amazing soon-to-be 2 year old!!
